FORMER Super Eagles goalkeepers’ trainer Amuda Adisa has canvassed more supports for the Super Eagles in their quests for qualifications in the next Mundial.
Adisa, a 1971 Challenge Cup winner with the then IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan, now 3SC Ibadan, said any blame trading exercise at this crucial stage of the qualifying series could be the heels of Achilles of the team.
He spoke with The Guardian yesterday in Ilorin. According to him, “we need to encourage our team because, we have no other team to claim as ours. Football as a game is highly technical and requires the support of all the stakeholders. But unfortunately in Nigeria, we often blame either the coach or the players for whatever goes wrong.
“The stage in which we are right now calls for the supports of all. Even the man drycleaning the vests of the players has a role to play. Let us support the coaching crew and encourage the players to give in all their best so that our flag can fly higher at the World Cup final.”
Adisa, who had also coached the male football team of University of Ilorin to the very finals of NUGA games in the year 1992, believed that the Super Eagles at present, has the best crops of players in Africa, adding that it would be shameful for the country to be missing in the world most celebrated football tournament.
The ex-Super Eagles goalkeeper urged Nigerians to pray for the successes of the team in all their remaining fixtures, noting that if the team could churn out victories in those games, they could qualify for a play off and use the channel to feature in the world cup finals.
He urged the football body in the country to resuscitate the NUGA games that produced the likes of John Ene Okon, Adeolu Adekola among others to discover quality players who could give a good fight with the foreign based players and thus create healthy rivalry for the Super Eagles.
