KWASU Refutes Claim Of Indifference To Robbery Attacks On Off Campus Students

THE Kwara State University, (KWASU) Malete, has denounced the claim by one Wahab Oba in a social medium report that the authorities of the institution especially the state Governor, Mallam AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq who is the visitor to the citadel of learning are allegedly indifferent to the recent robbery attacks on some of the students of the University residing in private hostels at Malete and some adjoining settlements.

In a statement released to the media yesterday in Ilorin the state capital,
Dr. Saeedat Aliyu the Acting Director, University Relations, of KWASU described the report as malicious and one couched to soil the reputation of the institution and that of the Governor AbdulRazaq’s government.

“This write up by one Wahab Oba claims ‘deafening silence’ on the recent robbery attacks on students of KWASU is one bent on destruction rather than construction as the writer refuses to see the results being made in restoring security to Malete community.

“For the education of the writer, some of the perpetrators of the attacks are in police custody, while those still at large can not claim that there is any silence.
Successes are being recorded in the restoration of security in Malete community, and Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON has been central to this achievement.”

Aliyu added that it was in the news that the KWASU Management, in collaboration with security agencies, local government authorities, the Ministry of Tertiary Education, and the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq took critical steps to arrest the situation.

Besides, she said restrictions to movement and activities were imposed in the Malete community just as she disclosed that the process of passing the restrictions into a bylaw was ongoing in the Moro Local Government Council, where the institution is cited.

She noted, “a joint security committee comprising members from the University, Malete community, student union, and the security agencies, is in place and the committee is working to ensure that all private hostels in Malete engage security for each hostel, and the employment of professional vigilantes to complement security officers in Malete.

“The University Management and Moro Local Government Council have increased the capacity of security presence in Malete community with the employment of vigilantes equipped with necessary gadgets to support existing security structure.

“The Nigeria Police has increased the number of men in the community while the men of the NSCDC are also patrolling the community.

“The Kwara State Government is also in collaboration with the security agencies and ensuring that no stone is left unturned in apprehending those who attacked our students and dispossessed them of their valuables. Arrests are being made, and more will still be made, and the culprits will face the wrath of the law.

“Thus, it is a disservice to the government of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the KWASU Management, the security agencies, and the people of Malete to claim that nothing is being done.”

The state added, “quoting events that had happened and for which remediation have been instituted as though nothing had been done is clear mischief and tarnishes whatever integrity and all moral claims the writer may think they have.

The Management of KWASU urges the public to disregard the writeup of Wahab Oba and any such writeups as they are false and aimed at destroying rather than providing solutions.”
